For Qinghai Lake, the most practical approach is to hire a car with a driver from Xining (500-800 RMB/day) or join a tour. There are no commercial airports near Qinghai Lake.

Xining Railway Station is the starting point of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway to Lhasa (22 hours). High-speed trains connect Xining to Lanzhou (1.5h), Xi'an (4.5h), and Beijing (8-10h). The Xining-Lanzhou high-speed line connects to the national high-speed rail network. For Qinghai Lake, there is no direct train; take a bus or hire a car from Xining. For the Qinghai Lake circuit, hiring a car with a driver is strongly recommended over buses, as attractions are spread out and public transport is infrequent.
