Chaka Salt Lake

A mirror-like salt lake where the sky and clouds reflect perfectly on the surface, creating a "sky mirror" effect.

History & Background

Chaka Salt Lake, meaning "salt sea" in Mongolian, has been mined for salt for over 3,000 years. The lake's shallow, highly saline water creates a mirror-like surface that perfectly reflects the sky, earning it the nickname "Sky Mirror." The salt thickness reaches several meters in places, and small trains transport salt from the mining areas.

What to See & Do

Salt mining operations with small trains
White salt flats stretching to the horizon

2.Wear bright colors for photos against white salt
3.Remove shoes before walking on salt flats
4.Bring sunglasses as the glare is intense
5.Allow 2-3 hours for photography
