History & Background

Qinghai Lake, at 3,200m elevation, is China's largest saltwater lake, covering 4,583 square kilometers. The lake's name means "blue sea" in Chinese. Surrounded by grasslands and snow-capped mountains, it is sacred to both Tibetan Buddhists and local Mongolians. In July, vast rapeseed flower fields bloom along the northern shore.
