The Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contain 51,000 Buddhist statues carved into sandstone cliffs in the 5th century during the Northern Wei dynasty. The 20 major caves feature a blend of Indian, Persian, and Chinese artistic influences, reflecting the cosmopolitan nature of the early Silk Road. Cave 6 is considered the most magnificent.
