Yellow River Valley

Hukou Waterfall

The largest waterfall on the Yellow River, where the river narrows dramatically and plunges into a stone channel. Spectacular in spring and autumn.

History & Background

Hukou Waterfall is the largest waterfall on the Yellow River, where the 300m-wide river narrows to just 30m as it plunges into a stone channel. The waterfall's name means "Flask Mouth" due to its shape. The roar of the water can be heard from kilometers away. The waterfall is most dramatic in spring when snowmelt increases the flow.
