History & Background

Jiayuguan Fort, built in 1372 during the Ming dynasty, marks the westernmost end of the Great Wall. Known as the "First and Greatest Pass Under Heaven," the fortress guarded the Silk Road passage through the Hexi Corridor. The fort complex includes inner and outer walls, watchtowers, and a museum detailing the Great Wall's western defenses.
