History & Background

Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the Terracotta Army was created over 2,200 years ago to guard Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife. Over 8,000 life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots were buried in three pits, each figure uniquely sculpted with individual facial features, hairstyles, and armor. It is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.
