History & Background

Built in 1370 during the early Ming dynasty on the foundations of the Tang imperial palace, Xi'an's city wall is the most complete ancient city wall surviving in China. It stretches 13.7 km in a rectangle, standing 12m high and 15-18m wide at the base. The wall features 98 ramparts, four main gates, and a deep moat.
