History & Background

West Lake has been celebrated by poets and emperors for over 1,000 years. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, the lake covers 6.5 square kilometers and is surrounded by gardens, pagodas, and willow-lined causeways. The "Ten Scenes of West Lake" have been depicted in Chinese art for centuries, including Broken Bridge in Snow and Leifeng Pagoda in Sunset.
