History & Background

Du Fu Thatched Cottage was the residence of Tang dynasty poet Du Fu from 759 to 765 AD. During the An Lushan Rebellion, Du Fu fled to Chengdu and built this simple thatched cottage by the Huanhua Stream. Here he wrote over 240 poems, including some of his most famous works. The current complex, rebuilt in the Qing dynasty, includes gardens, museums, and reconstructed cottages.
