History & Background

Mount Emei, at 3,099m, is one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains. Buddhism was introduced here in the 1st century AD, and the mountain now hosts over 30 temples. The Golden Summit, accessible by cable car, features a 48m bronze statue of Samantabhadra. The mountain is also famous for its cloud seas, sunrise views, and resident macaque monkeys.
